چکیده

Since chorionic villus sampling (CVS) was established as a first-trimester alternative to amniocentesis for the prenatal detection of genetic disorders four years ago [3, 15, 16], three major reports from different centers with about 1000 cases each have recently provided valuable informations on the safety of sampling and the reliability of diagnosis [4, 13, 17]. An editorial in the "Lancet" at the beginning of 1986 concluded from the discussion at the 2nd International Conference on CVS in Birmingham that "the best technique of CVS is not yet agreed" [1]. Most samples are at present obtained transcervically by a specific type of plastic catheter with a bendable aluminum obturator which was originally developed by H. WARD [15]. A disadvantage of this particular instrument can be an occasionally significant reduction in visibility on the ultrasound screen after removal of the metal obturator with resulting loss of control over the catheter tip during sampling. We therefore started in 1984 to develop a CVS catheter with improved echogenicity [5] and ultimately have used in our diagnostic series a transparent polyethylene catheter (figure 1 a) with a highly echogenic stripe in its wall (figure 1 b). Here our experience with more than 500 diagnostic cases using this technique and their complete follow-up according to an investigative protocol is reported. Curriculum vitae

Chorionic villi sampling: cytogenetic and clinical findings in 500 pregnancies.

The cytogenetic findings were analysed in a series of 500 pregnancies in which chorionic villi sampling was performed. In all cases a direct method was used, karyotyping being successful in 481 cases (96.2%). The main indication for sampling was maternal age over 36 (412 cases; 82.4%). Abnormal laboratory findings resulted in 24 terminations of pregnancy (4.8%); in addition five unexpected bala...

Perinat. Med. Morphometric investigations of terminal villi of diabetic placentas in is (1987) 193 relation to the White classification of diabetes mellitus

The fetal risk in maternal diabetes mellitus is high [5, 6]. The reasons for fetal macrosomatia are controversially as are those for intrauterine fetal growth retardation and intrauterine fetal death. These mostly happen without prodromes and are feared by all obstetricians. Morphologists have described signs of a so-called chronic placental insufficiency in cases of small for date infants and ...

Outcome of pregnancies with trisomy 2 cells in chorionic villi.

OBJECTIVE To describe the outcome of pregnancies with trisomy 2 in cultures of first-trimester chorionic villous samples (CVS) and determine whether amniocentesis is necessary in the management of such cases. METHODS Cultures of chorionic villi were performed at 11-13 weeks in 37 474 pregnancies. In those with trisomy 2 cells, amniocentesis was performed at 16 weeks. Pregnancy outcome was obt...
